Shanghai Pudong New Area Gongli Hospital
In November of 2017, PreferUS Healthcare and the Shanghai Pudong New Area Gongli Hospital entered into a partnership that will allow both entities to collaborate in the development of an advanced sports medicine center within Gongli Hospital.
In April of 2018, PreferUS and Gongli launched the Gongli-PreferUS International Sports Medicine Center at the Gongli Hospital in the Pudong Area of Shanghai. This accomplishment was the culmination of 18 months of preparation and working together to launch this facility with the goal of making Gongli Hospital an international standards sports medicine destination center. Additionally, this will be the first comprehensive Sino-American sports medicine center in China.
PreferUS’ mission is well represented with the opening of this center as it aims to provide the very best western medical practices to the Chinese patients. PreferUS Founder and CEO, Michael Franz commented, "This unveiling ceremony marks the beginning of the execution phase of this unique partnership between PreferUS and Gongli. The people and resources fit combined with a mutually shared vision provides for an excellent chance to bring the highest levels of sports medicine services to the people of China. PreferUS will bring a vast amount of training services to the physicians, nurses and rehabilitation specialists. These individuals will have the opportunity to participate in the U.S. Immersion Program at a PreferUS Training Center. Additionally, PreferUS provides on-site follow up training at the Gongli Hospital.
Dr. Ralph Gambardella, President of Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles, California, will serve as Medical Director of the program. Dr. Gambardella said, “as Medical Director, I am excited to have an important role in the implementation of the sports medicine program at Shanghai Gongli Hospital. We believe this collaboration between PreferUS and Gongli, will also present Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic with the opportunity to build their brand throughout the China healthcare market.” Additionally, Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic is one of the top sports medicine institutes in the world. He will travel to China several times per year to attend conferences and conduct training clinics. Dr. Gambardella brings a wealth of knowledge, reputation and specialized surgical skills that help set the partnership between PreferUS and Gongli Hospital apart from the competition.
The Shanghai Pudong New Area Gongli Hospital was founded in 1943. It is the largest tier II public hospital in Shanghai. The hospital is equipped with 822 beds, 31 clinical departments and a total staff of 1,500. At an annual rate of 20,000 surgeries performed, the hospital has nearly 2 million clinic visits per year, which is second among all hospitals affiliated with the Pudong Health Bureau.
As the Gongli healthcare system welcomes the new sports medicine center with PreferUS Healthcare, their other specialties include; otorhinolaryngology, urology, cardiology, OBGYN, anesthesiology and orthopedics. The Hospital also serves as a training base of resident doctors in Shanghai. It is also the teaching hospital and training center for Ningxia Medical University and Bengbu Medical College.
